- This video is a bit unique, because I can't really give you specific steps and say, okay, here's how you develop the performance management process. So I'm going to offer up some interesting ideas and then a list of things to think about. I will say though that I really encourage you to move away from the annual performance conversation. It's just gone out of style. Why? Because the internet provides instant information, it's ruined us all. We want feedback constantly. So I do suggest working constant feedback into your performance system. I also recommend your system is focused on the future, not on the past. If you're tying it to organizational goals then you have no choice but to do that. So yes, managers will review mistakes that were made and acknowledge wins that were had, but they should really be focused on helping the employee move forward and grow.
