Behavior and culture play a pivotal role in organizational dysfunction. By examining harmful workplace behaviors, power dynamics, and cultural values, you can better understand how they shape employee experience and impact business performance. Harmful or toxic behavior can manifest in various forms, from passive-aggressive communication to outright bullying and harassment. As a leader, it's essential to be attuned to these patterns and proactively address them. Observe interactions between team members, taking note of any recurring themes of disrespect, manipulation, or undermining. And there are limitations to what you can observe directly, of course, so you need to build enough trust and psychological safety for employees to share concerns with you without fear of retaliation.
