Over the years, I've trained interns who went on to become professors, writers, music producers, CEOs, and more. Their journeys began with a compelling orientation and onboarding experience. Orientation introduces interns to the company and culture, and onboarding is a more detailed process that provides information, tools, and supervision for the interns to successfully do their jobs. Quality training starts with a well-planned and well-executed onboarding process. In this lesson, I'll share how you can capture your interns’ attention and demonstrate respect from day one. It's best to set up the first day as an orientation. This sets the tone for the entire process and should include team introductions. Include the C-suite to show investment in your intern success. For remote teams, schedule a virtual meet-and-greet where fun personal factoids are shared. For in-person programs, give them a tour of the office and make quick introductions.
