Running an older program

- [Instructor] It's said that software never expires. Sure, it may lose support, but in theory, any program can still run providing that the computer's hardware supports it. Case in point is this folder here, which contains word perfect 5.1, the software I used to write many of my books a long time ago. Yes, this program still runs and you'll see it run by the end of this video. The issue is how to get it to run on a modern computer. The program file in this case is located right here, WP.EXE. It's an MS-DOS program, but this could be any program, even an old Windows program you still want to use. The steps to follow here are the same. Right click on the program file icon, WP.EXE and choose properties. In the program's properties dialogue box, click the compatibility tab. Now you can try to use the compatibility troubleshooter, though I've not had much success with it. Choose the compatibility mode option and select an operating system from the list.
