From the course: Harnessing AI for Effective Interviewing
AI for technical and coding assessments
- Are you overwhelmed by the need to find top tech talent quickly with traditional interviewing methods? Good news is that AI powered tools are your new best friends in this process, they make evaluating technical and coding skills faster, more accurate, and smarter. When I was leading hiring for one of our tech teams at Meta, we faced the challenge of streamlining tech assessments while focusing on hiring candidates from non-traditional backgrounds. I turned to automated coding challenges using AI powered tools like CodeSignal. CodeSignal provided features like Cosmo, code quality score, and AI insights, which allowed us to evaluate candidates' technical skills more accurately and efficiently. The platform also detected potential plagiarism and other irregularities in code, ensuring the integrity of the assessment process. To make the most of the tool, I partnered with business leaders to clearly define the technical skills and coding competencies essential for each role. Then we worked together to tailor coding challenges and technical questions to real world scenarios and technologies relevant to our organization. This customization ensured that assessments were relevant and accurately measured candidates fit for the role. While CodeSignal provided valuable data, we complimented it with technical interviews conducted by seasoned interviewers to get a comprehensive view of each candidate's capabilities. We also regularly audited and calibrated our tool to avoid unintended biases and maintain fairness. If you are exploring other options, tools like HackerRank and Codility use AI to create and evaluate coding challenges in real time, diving into code quality, problem solving skills, and efficiency. For technical skills assessment, platforms like Pluralsight and Skillsoft use adaptive learning algorithms to customize questions based on candidates responses. DeepCode offers an in-depth analysis of code quality. Companies like Goldman Sachs and LinkedIn have successfully integrated AI into technical recruitment processes. Goldman Sachs uses HireVue for analyzing coding exercises and technical interviews, while LinkedIn leverages Codility to enhance the accuracy of their technical evaluations. Think about this, how can you use AI to make your technical recruitment process smoother and more effective, all while making sure you are finding the right candidates for your team?
