Matters, search, and hold in Google Vault

After understanding the retention rules in Google Vault, it is very critical to understand the other two options that we have from an administrator perspective. First one is Matters. Now we need to understand what matters is to understand how to use or create matters in Google Vault. Just from an overview perspective, a matter acts like a project folder. It holds all the searches, holds, and exports you create for a particular scenario. Instead of managing individual searches or holds in isolation, you can use Matters to group everything logically. Let's take an example. Let's say your legal team is handling a case called as Vendor Dispute 2025. You could create a matter named as Vendor Dispute 2025 and within that matter, you can search all the emails from the vendor. You can place holds on the e-mail and drive data of the employees who are involved in the matter, export relevant documents for review, and you can track who accessed the data during the process.
