Defining dialog mapping
In this lesson, I'm going to introduce a powerful but little-known facilitation technique for meetings that is called dialogue mapping. Now I can only give a short introduction to the technique here, just enough to enable you to use it effectively in meetings, and we refer you to the standard reference for more details. Dialog mapping is based on a particular grammar called Issue-Based Information System, or Ibis. This was created in the 1970s by Werner Kunz and Horst Rittel. IBS is a graph with four elements,. A question, an idea or answer to the question. A pro, which is an argument for something, and a con, an argument against something. Dialog mapping has a few other node types as well. We find the notes listed in the site be adequate for most generative analysis use.
