- [Instructor] There are literally thousands of display typefaces available. Many can be used for multiple purposes depending on how they are used. But some of them are designed for a very specific and unique purpose to succinctly and immediately reference a historical era, a cultural identity, a vernacular style, or an emotion. Matching a relevant typeface to your content is a great way to create expressiveness. This tropical disco poster from Eric Brechbuhll is an example of using a super-specific typeface for its precise purpose. This definitely feels like disco with its neon signage and the tropical flavor of bright colors. I love the super-specific display typefaces of master type designer Daniel Pelavin. His cursive nautical rope typeface, "Salty Dog", immediately brings to mind a beachside restaurant or perhaps a line of sailing gear.
