- Now that you've done your research and secured a venue, the next step is to consider the food and beverage that you'll need. It can be easy to see food and beverage as a secondary or nice-to-have element of your event. But in reality, the success of any event will in part depend on the food and beverage plans that you make. Why is this such an important part of the event? This goes back to understanding the purpose. As the event planner, it's your responsibility to ensure that the environment you create supports the goal of the event. You also want to ensure that the participants aren't distracted by non-goal-oriented tasks like, you guessed it, eating. Creating a great menu will support the productivity of your event and also help keep everyone on schedule. It would be nearly impossible to keep a group of people focused on a task at hand if they're constantly taking breaks to find refreshment.
