- Let's say your organization is undergoing a threat to public safety. Perhaps it's a fire in your place of business. Who are the key audiences for receiving information? Your first instinct might tell you, why the people in the building, of course. And you would be correct. But who else might need to stay informed at different levels, both during and after the crisis? You'll undoubtedly call emergency responders, like police, fire fighters, and medics. The people who live nearby will hear sirens and smell smoke and see fire in their neighborhood. The local media, reporters, and journalists, they'll want to tell the public what's happening. Then, the public at large will often want to learn more details. Friends and family of people who frequent your place of business will demand to know if their loved ones are safe.
