Advancements in generative AI make it easy to create synthetic text, audio, images, and video that are highly realistic. Deepfakes are highly realistic, AI-generated or manipulated media that depict people saying or doing things they never did or fabricate scenes with convincing detail. Malicious parties use deepfakes in phishing, fraud, and influence operations. As these tools become more accessible, the risk of abuse grows, and security teams must understand how they work. Impersonation poses a major risk to individuals and organizations. Generative AI can now mimic a person's voice, appearance, writing style, and behavior, allowing malicious actors to pose as someone else online, over the phone, or on video calls. These attacks might target public figures, major organizations, or even private individuals.
