- So what is collective intelligence? Collective intelligence is a scientific term for how we work together well. It's how we collaborate at work so that the people in our team are more intelligent when we work together than even the most intelligent person in that team is working alone. Researchers prove that when we work well together, we can achieve so much more than when we work as individuals. But we all know that collaborating can be hard. It's time consuming, and creating something by committee is hardly ever successful. But this is not about herd behavior. This is not about when people follow each other blindly or group think, or when we somehow get to the lowest common denominator of the group's outputs instead of the highest.
