For the exam, you should be able to describe and use basic probability concepts, independent events, mutually exclusive events, multiplication rules, permutations, and combinations. So yes, you may be asked to calculate the probability of outcomes on the exam. Let's do a little practice. For example, if I roll 2 dice, what is the probability of getting 5? Well, let's see this table of all possible outcomes. Notice that the total number of possible outcomes is 36, and if you count up the 5s, the total number of favourable outcomes, that is rolling a 5, is 4. As you can see the formula on the screen, so the probability is 4 divided by 36, which equals one-ninth. What is the probability of getting 11? Looking at the table of possible outcomes, there are 2 favourable outcomes. So the probability of getting 11 is 2 divided by 36. Now, what is the probability of getting 5 or 11?
