- At this point, you've done a lot of hard work on yourself, your team, and your vision. Now it's time to drive commitment and performance with your team through their development plans. Development plans can be for everyone as we are growing and learning all the time. This is important for a great performer as it is for a weaker performer and leads to opportunities, training, and new experiences. A great development plan can be really motivating and is owned and driven by the team member. It's there to define how they will achieve their goals. You as the manager are there to facilitate and enable the support training and coaching. Many managers make the mistake of feeling they must do all the work in writing them up, arranging the development, delivering the next steps, and micromanaging the output.
