Blockchain security course overview
(bright music) - [Howard] Have you been hearing about blockchain and want to understand how it works under the hood, especially from a security perspective, or maybe you're in the blockchain space and you're wanting to know how to secure the environments that you're building. If so, this is the learning path for you. My name's Howard Poston. My background's in cybersecurity, but I got into blockchain a couple of years ago and have been focusing on it from a security perspective. We're going to cover everything you need to know to start out with blockchain security. This course is designed to assume zero knowledge, and so we're going to talk about how the blockchain works at each level, but from a security perspective. In this learning path, we're going to talk through five different areas. We're going to start at fundamentals of blockchain security, talking about what the blockchain is and how it's based off of cryptographic algorithms and their security. Then we'll talk about consensus algorithms, those algorithms that make it possible to have a set distributed decentralized ledger and the attacks that can be performed against them. Third, we'll talk about how the blockchain actually operates. Once we've got the nuts and bolts out of the way, we can talk about the nodes and the network and how data flows and is processed through the blockchain environment and how the security of that can be impacted by an attacker or by mistaken assumptions. Fourth, we'll talk about blockchain at a high level, talking about smart contracts, programs that are built to run on top of a blockchain and run code in a distributed, decentralized environment. And finally, we'll talk about things that go beyond the basics of blockchain. Talk about alternative distributed ledgers or additional features that can be added onto blockchain to improve it or provide additional capabilities. We've got several hours of video lessons talking through how blockchain works and the security assumptions and attacks that can be performed against them. And at the end of this learning path, we've included a set of challenges to test your understanding and help you start out with the type of thinking that you'll need if you're going to enter the blockchain securities field. So what are you waiting for? Jump into this learning path today and let's get started. (bright music)
