- Have you heard the story of a man who tells his grandson about two fighting wolves? One wolf is angry, filled with self-pity and ego. The other wolf is joyful, kind, and empathetic. Their battle is fierce. "Which one will win?", asks the boy. And grandfather replies, "The one you feed." Many of us experience that same battle within. We feed that negative wolf when we think of doomsday scenarios or doubt ourselves and everyone around us. We feed the positive wolf when we dwell on possibilities, strengths, and gratitude. When we are feeding the negative wolf, how do we stop? Can we choose our thoughts? Absolutely! Viktor Frankl wrote, "The last of the human freedoms is to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances." Frankl was an Austrian psychiatrist and a Holocaust survivor.
