- [Instructor] Keeping our SQL servers up to date is another important task as a DBA. Microsoft often releases security patches and hot fixes for the SQL server versions we have deployed in our estate. So for us to be as secure as possible, it's good to be up to date with applying those patches. In the past, before DBA tools changed my life, I would keep a spreadsheet or a table in a database up to date with a list of all the SQL servers and some important information, including their patch level. As I applied cumulative updates or security fixes, I would retrieve the new build numbers and update that information. This worked well unless I forgot to update the information. Lucky for us, we can now rely on automated scripts to update this information for us. Using DBA tools, we can check what is actually installed in our estate and ensure our documentation is never out of date. Let's take a look at our options. If we run…
