- [Narrator] Depending on the organization, data might be one of the largest assets a company can possess. It holds the keys and insights into revenue streams, customer information, historical trends, and financial successes and failures. Because it has so much power, it should be safeguarded against prying eyes, breaches, misuse, and inaccurate conclusions. Depending on the industry and country, data may also be under regulation by government entities like the GDPR and CCPA, making its protection a legal requirement as well. In 2019, Capitol One, a major bank in America had a data breach that exposed over a hundred million customer records. This breach stemmed from a poorly configured AWS application firewall that allowed the attacker to steal credentials and privileges. The breach was worsened by the fact that the data stored in S3 buckets was not adequately encrypted or segmented. This sort of scenario is the worst nightmare of an analytics engineer.
