Develop the habits of action
- When we think about taking decisive action, we typically imagine a one-time event. The boss sits back, hears the dueling presentations and says, "That one." But the truth is, if we're trying to sculpt ourselves into leaders who are effective all the time, then taking decisive action isn't something we pull out of our toolkit once or twice a year. Instead, it needs to be a habit we consciously cultivate. Research shows that as much as 40% of our daily activities are habitual from brushing our teeth to the route we use to drive to work, and when something becomes a habit, it's a lot easier to do. You don't have to put brush your teeth on your to-do list every single day. It just gets done. Similarly, if we can make the effort to turn acting decisively into a habit, there's a positive cascade.
