The Role: Mechanical Engineer, Thermal & Fluid Systems
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design, model, and validate thermal and fluid systems used in Switch data center environments. This role exists to improve cooling performance, efficiency, and scalability through simulation-driven engineering and system modeling.
You will leverage CFD, 3D modeling, and system simulation tools to validate designs and support development of digital twin capabilities. Your work directly informs design decisions and supports Product Development, Design Engineering, and Construction teams.

The Role: Mechanical Engineer, Thermal & Fluid Systems
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design, model, and validate thermal and fluid systems used in Switch data center environments. This role exists to improve cooling performance, efficiency, and scalability through simulation-driven engineering and system modeling.
You will leverage CFD, 3D modeling, and system simulation tools to validate designs and support development of digital twin capabilities. Your work directly informs design decisions and supports Product Development, Design Engineering, and Construction teams.
What You’ll Do
- Develop 3D CAD models for piping and fluid cooling systems
- Perform CFD simulations to evaluate thermal and airflow performance
- Conduct system-level simulations to assess cooling infrastructure performance
- Analyze chiller and environmental performance under varying conditions
- Support development of digital twins through simulation outputs and visualization
- Collaborate with Design Engineering and Construction teams to validate system performance
- Participate in system modeling activities using SysML or similar frameworks
- Prepare and present technical reports based on simulation results
- Translate modeling insights into design improvements
- Contribute to continuous improvement of thermal and fluid system design practices
- You apply strong fundamentals in heat transfer and fluid dynamics
- You approach modeling and design with precision and attention to detail
- You translate simulation results into practical engineering decisions
- You communicate technical concepts clearly across teams
- You collaborate effectively in cross-functional environments
- You take ownership of work from modeling through validation
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 3+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 1–2 years of experience
- Strong background in heat transfer and fluid dynamics
- Experience performing CFD simulations
- Experience designing 3D CAD models for mechanical systems
- Experience with industrial cooling systems, including chillers and piping
- Ability to read and interpret piping diagrams and engineering schematics
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or PTC Creo)
- Experience with CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS or similar)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Experience in data center or AI infrastructure environments
- Experience developing P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)
- Familiarity with system-level modeling tools (e.g., SysML, CATIA Magic)
- Experience in rapid prototyping or product development environments
- Exposure to power or infrastructure systems
