“We followed the construction submittal process for a reason…” Spoke to a Project Superintendent this week who summed up one of the biggest headaches on large builds 👇 Submittals! Everyone thinks they understand it but very few actually follow it. Here’s what he said: 🚫 Subs are switching materials last minute to save money, sometimes it’s cheaper, sometimes it’s genuinely better. 🚫 But unless it’s approved through the submittal process, it’s a no-go. The owner has to see proof it’s worth the change. Developers are communicating well. Subs… not so much. Specs are laid out clearly by the owner and architect, just bid and supply what’s on the drawings! I’m not bashing sub contractors here, but it’s crazy how much time and cost is lost over something so basic, communication. What’s the longest delay you’ve seen caused by a bad submittal?
