Science Demo Presenter for public and kids
FSU Day at the Capitol by Florida State University
- Present 11 years 3 months
Arts and Culture
Each year’s FSU Day at the Capitol spotlights the extraordinary accomplishments of students and faculty and pays tribute to the university’s proud heritage. In the science demo show, we presented the interesting physical experiments and explained to the kids how and why. This inspired the young generation and children for the science education.

Children
On the Open House day, the public people are invited to spend the day at this world-class research laboratory, and they came by the thousands. This free event features something for visitors of every age: hands-on demonstrations, self-guided tours, activities from our educational partners, food, and the chance to meet and chat with our scientists and other MagLab staff. It's also a chance to do good for the community to show how cool science is and inspire young kids to get involved with…

Kaggle/Avito Context Ad Clicks (Final Rank 50th/414)
See project★ Jointed relational datasets (~ 50GB) via sqlite3–python API for SQLite databases.
★ Implemented an online logistic regression (FTRL algorithm) with feature hashing. -
Kaggle/Crowdflower Search Results Relevance (Final Rank 107th/1326)
See project★ Tokenized text data combined with stemming and lemmatization processing methods.
★ Devised and tuned varies models–pipelines of SVD, SVM, gradient tree boosting and
other ensemble methods, to evaluate the accuracy of search engines.
-
Kaggle/West Nile Virus Prediction (Final Rank 113th/1306)
★ Deployed GAM, random forest, xgboost, etc. to predict outbreaks of WNV.
★ Utilized synthetic minority over-sampling technique to conquer the class imbalance issue.

Iterative Proportional Scaling (IPS) on Big Count Data (Paper Submitted)
-
● Extended the scope of IPS to handle general log-affine models via the MM algorithm.
● Improved IPS through randomized block coordinate descent methods and Nesterov’s acceleration techniques, resulting in highly scalable algorithms.
● Redesigned IPS to shrinkage estimation with a large number (>10k) of variables.
