PURPOSE
Inspired Heart is a 501(c)(3) organization that partners with educational institutions and local businesses to deliver STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)-focused programming, including education, mentorship and skills-based development, to high school students in the metro Atlanta area. The goal of these efforts is to inspire an interest in STEM-related career fields and lay the groundwork for future success.
HISTORY
The inspiration for Inspired Heart Youth Empowerment grew out of a shared passion for community and a desire to give back. Three colleagues at Newell Brands - Dereck Purnell and his wife Catherine Purnell, Tredrick Jackson and Janice Reshae - felt compelled to pay forward the successes they’d experienced in their own careers and decided to achieve this through mentorship and educational opportunities for young people in Atlanta. After much thought and planning, Inspired Heart Youth Empowerment Inc. was formed in 2010.

The 100 Black Men of Dekalb was formed in 1992 by 14 businessmen from Dekalb County. The men wanted an organization in their community where they could devote their time and resources. The chapter is registered with Dekalb County as “The Dekalb County Chapter 100 Black Men of America, Inc.”
The Leadership Academy, the flagship community program, was conceptualized in 1991 to target young African American boys who are the target group in the community and at risk. The Chapter Board of Directors empowered the President-Elect to proceed in establishing a leadership program through the DeKalb Public School System. Working with the Chapter’s Education Committee and the DeKalb School System these men began the program in three schools: Snapfinger, Wadsworth and Knollwood Elementary Schools.
