M&A integration is no joke. After integrating Taylor Hewson CFP®, CIM®, Connor Hewson and Crystal Ganshorn, we were reminded that even when there is strong alignment on philosophy and culture, there is still real work to complete a successful integration. In M&A, alignment gets you to “yes.” However, integration determines how well it actually works. A few realities we experienced firsthand: 🔹 Client onboarding at scale is complex and time-intensive 🔹 Data integration is critical to ensure continuity for both clients and internal teams 🔹 A clear communication plan explaining the why behind the decision to clients and staff matters immensely. 🔹 Financial integration across systems, expenses, revenue, and reporting requires precision 🔹 People and culture integration takes intention, not assumptions 🔹 Bringing new advisors into shared meetings and collaboration rhythms does not happen automatically 🔹 Learning the PWL way is essential to deliver a consistent, high-quality client experience regardless of advisor 🔹 Cybersecurity standards must be upheld throughout the transition to protect client data None of these steps are glamorous but all of it is essential. The good news is that once you work through the initial integration phase, something powerful happens. Teams collaborate more, new ideas form, standards rise and the client experience improves. Done well, integration is not about absorbing a team. It is about becoming better together and building a platform that can serve more Canadians with consistency, care, and excellence.
