For me, media reporting panels are almost a guilty pleasure. I freaking love hearing reporters dish about their industry. For November’s panel at Media Summit | NYC, we had three fantastic media reporters on stage: SEMAFOR’s Maxwell Tani, Status’ Oliver Darcy, and CNN ’s Hadas Gold. A few of my favorite takeaways: - As media has fragmented, so has media reporting. Half a day might now be spent figuring out, “Who the hell is this podcaster who just interviewed the President?” - There is a whole class of pretty powerful “news influencers” with fewer than a million followers who are barely covered. - Undisputed facts are often treated as divisive and verboten by traditional news organizations. - Good media reporters are basically desensitized to the threat of defamation lawsuits. Bring it on.
