Design Spring: The Challenges and Opportunities of Developing the Middle East’s Hospitality Scene

Tourism in the Middle East has long been precarious, but with the advent of Arab Spring in 2011, the future is even more uncertain—and promising. Get a snapshot of Middle Eastern hospitality developments and the challenges and opportunities of the Middle East’s shifting hospitality market through the eyes of a panel of experts working there. By delineating the success of Dubai hotels and restaurants, they will discuss Abu Dhabi’s parallel rise, as well as the burgeoning design scenes in Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait. Learn how Erbil, on the border of Turkey, might bring a possible tourism boost to Iraq, and how locals are responding to the presence of American hospitality brands. The panel will also explore the impact of luxurious lodging in cities where it was never before been a reality, Cairo’s scramble to rebuild tourism, and what working in the Middle East means for women.
