Yes indeed Yury Gogotsi: This study demonstrates that replacing conventional copper current collectors with thinner, lighter Ti₃C₂Tₓ MXene films significantly enhances Li-ion battery performance achieving an 89% increase in electrode level gravimetric capacity while enabling sustainable reuse of the MXene collectors. The study was led at Case School of Engineering by Hossein Ghassemi. Polyacenes, one-dimensional (1D) linear chains of fused benzene rings, are expected to exhibit interesting optoelectronic properties. Short-chain polyacenes, up to nine rings, have been reported to be unstable in air, oxidizing or dimerizing easily under UV light. We have synthesized highly stable substituted pentacene, nonacene, and polyacenes by the Friedel-Crafts acylation using pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and hydroquinone or quinizarin. TEM images reveal nonacene chains self-assembled into nanocrystalline structures and polymer chains tens of nanometers long, indicating hundreds of benzene rings fused together. The electronic conductivity of the polymers at room temperature is in the range of semiconductors, which is remarkably high for an undoped organic compound. The electronic spectra of the polymers extend into the near-IR region, indicating the presence of intrinsic free carriers. These polymers exhibit exceptional thermal and oxidative stability and produce high char yields.
