The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Public and Population Health offers a fully online Master of Public Health in Biostatistics — 43 credits completed over 20 months, with small cohorts and direct faculty support. One lesson I learned early in healthcare projects: Power BI should never be the place where data issues are discovered. At CVS Health, I supported reporting on claims, eligibility, and enrollment data used by business and operations teams. If wrong data reached dashboards, the damage was already done. So I treated data validation as part of the pipeline — not an afterthought. What I actually implemented in production: 🖊️ Validation before reporting layers All checks were enforced in the Silver layer, before data ever moved to Gold tables feeding Power BI. Bad data never got promoted. 🖊️ Business-rule validations I validated things that mattered to the business, not just null checks: claim amounts > 0 eligibility dates aligned with service dates no duplicate member–claim combinations mandatory fields always populated 🖊️ Reconciliation checks For every load, I compared: source counts vs target counts previous day vs current day deltas This helped catch partial loads and silent data loss. 🖊️ Quarantine, not failure Instead of failing entire pipelines, invalid records were isolated into error tables with clear reason codes. Pipelines stayed up, but data stayed clean. 🖊️ Only trusted data to Power BI Power BI connected only to validated Gold tables. No direct access to raw or intermediate datasets — ever. The result: Stable dashboards Fewer “why did this number change?” calls Business teams trusted reports again Engineers spent less time firefighting Good dashboards start long before the BI tool.
