Strong technical writing isn’t about writing, it’s about listening. • Product explains intent. • Engineering explains reality. • Support explains pain points. • Users explain confusion.

Code should be self-documenting. Field names like weight might seem clear until they show up under multiple structures like material, shipment, or container. Suddenly, you're doing detective work just to understand the data. In API design, clarity isn’t optional, it’s essential. Unambiguous field names save time, reduce errors, and make life easier for everyone who touches the code. Reposting this excellent piece on why clear field naming really matters. To the writer, developer, the user, and even to the application.

Documentation systems often assume reasoning will be obvious. It rarely is. Engagement teams understand the file while building it. Reviewers see it after context has faded. Inspectors see it without internal history at all. If documentation relies on shared memory, defensibility declines with each review layer. Design must anticipate distance. #AuditQuality #InspectionReadiness

What stood out immediately from the State of Docs 2025 report was this paragraph: "Documentation plays a huge role when companies are deciding what products to buy. More than 90% of the leaders and engineers we surveyed said documentation was either “extremely important” or “somewhat important” in their decision-making. Only 2% said it wasn’t important at all." What surprised me was that 78.6% mentioned that product documentation helped them decide to buy a product, while only 31.8% said customer success stories did To be honest, I thought it would've been the opposite. I wonder, however if the opposite is true for tech services? Meaning, case studies play a bigger role for tech services. Imagine: Collaboration by design rather than death by a thousand edits and phone. Josh Bernoff inspires at every level. Approaching the collaborative process from a design standpoint is a beautiful idea, not a constraining one. Saul Bass said, “Design is thinking made visual.” Is collaboration design thinking made practical?
