Many customers in the Federal space have complex disparate data across focus areas. Decisions are driven based on combining data sources, and making those decisions at the data level can help drive faster and more accurate answers for downstream applications and LLMs. In this blog post, Seth M. explores how "data gravity"—the increasing difficulty and cost of moving large datasets—exacerbates challenges, where applying complex business rules often leads to latency and infrastructure strain. To counter this, the Seth highlights an integrated approach using Corticon.js for decision authoring and MarkLogic as a data hub. Corticon.js empowers business analysts to build decision logic via intuitive tools like Corticon.js Studio: defining vocabularies from schemas, crafting rulesheets for conditional logic, sequencing via ruleflows, and validating with ruletests. This compiles into portable JavaScript for seamless deployment. MarkLogic complements this by ingesting data through Flux and triggering inline evaluations on document arrival, enriching records with decisions, audit messages, and traces—without any data movement. This preserves lineage, boosts throughput, and ensures a single source of truth. Key benefits include transparent, auditable decisions for compliance; reduced costs from eliminating data transfers; and enhanced efficiency for sectors like public programs (e.g., automating eligibility and claims). For LLMs and apps, an explainability dashboard visualizes policies and traces, while an AI-in-the-loop chatbot leverages Retrieval-Augmented Generation from MarkLogic to deliver grounded, context-rich responses. GSA has been consolidating federal procurement systems for a decade. We're down from 13 systems to 4, heading toward 2. Recent decommissioned systems and their new locations: ✔️ eSRS.gov (Electronic Subcontracting Reporting System): retired February 20, 2026, now in SAM.gov for subcontracting plan reporting ✔️ FPDS.gov public site: retired February 24, 2026, contract award search now requires SAM.gov account ✔️ Interagency Contract Directory (contractdirectory.gov): also retired February 24, 2026, searches now conducted in SAM.gov ✔️ Coming next: CPARS (Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System) is scheduled to begin transitioning to SAM.gov later in fiscal year 2026. What this actually means: If you're a small business doing market research, you now need an account where you previously browsed freely. If you have subcontracting reporting obligations, you file through SAM. If you track your performance ratings, that system will move soon. The consolidation reduces costs for government and taxpayers. For contractors, it means fewer passwords but more dependency on a single platform. The pattern is clear: SAM.gov is becoming the single entry point for federal awards. Plan accordingly. Note: While SAM.gov is becoming the primary entry point for federal contract awards and reporting, the IAE still includes other tools and legacy systems that may not be fully integrated. Contractors may encounter additional platforms for certain reporting or agency-specific functions.

Most U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs legacy analytics stacks weren’t designed for real-time healthcare operations and as a result drive significant hidden costs, reinforced silos, while providing SIGNIFICANTLY less functionality and capability. They were designed for batch reporting (not near real time engagement). At VA scale, that difference matters A LOT. For decades, VA environments built on tools like SAS 9 relied on: • Nightly ELT jobs • Duplicate data marts • Custom pipelines owned by individual teams • Manual reconciliation across VA and program offices That model creates latency, cost, hardened silos, required expensive FTE administration , and ultimately provides conflicting “versions of truth.” There’s a better way. Salesforce Government Cloud Plus + MuleSoft shifts VA from “copy and reconcile” to API-led, governed, real-time integration. Instead of moving data over and over again: ✔ Authoritative systems are exposed through reusable APIs ✔ Business logic is standardized once, reused everywhere ✔ Workflows and analytics operate on trusted, consistent data ✔ Insights are embedded directly into operations This is the difference between: 📊 Analytics after the fact and ⚡ Intelligence inside the process At enterprise scale, that means: • Fewer redundant integrations • Reduced infrastructure and maintenance costs • Less analyst time spent reconciling numbers • Faster cycle times for care coordination, finance, and contracting • Improved Veteran experience And because this runs on Salesforce Government Cloud Plus (FedRAMP® High authorized), VA data stays inside the secure boundary with enterprise-grade governance. As someone who spent 20+ years inside VA OIT before moving to industry, I’ve seen firsthand how integration sprawl drives hidden cost. Modernization isn’t about replacing a reporting tool.
