Candidate Update – Senior Hospitality Market Over the past few months, the market for senior hospitality leaders has been shifting. 📉📈 While some groups are still feeling the pinch of slower trading conditions, we’re seeing a moderate rebound in demand for proven leadership talent. Roles at the ELT, Operations Director, and Exec Chef level are slowly moving again – but with a noticeable change in what employers are prioritising. 🔑 Key themes we’re seeing: Lean structures – businesses are hiring fewer but stronger leaders, placing real emphasis on multi-brand experience. Stability & tenure – after a cycle of churn, boards and owners want candidates with demonstrated loyalty and consistency. Commercial agility – senior leaders who can flex between operational delivery and commercial strategy are in highest demand. Values & culture fit – with talent shortages still lingering, alignment on values is often as important as technical skill. For senior candidates, this means opportunities are there – but the market is more selective. Employers are being careful with their investments, and competition for top roles is fierce. If you’re considering your next move, now is a good time to: ✅ Re-frame your CV around measurable results (not just responsibilities). ✅ Highlight multi-site leadership, transformation projects, or stabilisation work. ✅ Be clear on what drives you – employers want leaders aligned with their brand story. Last week, the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association (CFHLA) was proud to launch our first-ever NextGen Leadership Council, which is a new initiative prioritized by our CFHLA Board Chair, Jon McGavin, to help develop and empower the next generation of hospitality leaders in Central Florida. During our inaugural meeting, senior-level leaders connected with peers, gained insight into CFHLA's strategic priorities, and explored the critical role of advocacy within our industry. Also, congrats to Tyler Spaulding, Hotel Manager at the Orlando World Center Marriott, who was named the 2026 Council Chair! Throughout the rest of 2026, Tyler and twenty-two other leaders will collaborate with many of CFHLA’s committees, including the Governmental Affairs Committee and the Political Action Committee, to gain firsthand insight into the advocacy process, explore meaningful ways to engage within the Central Florida hospitality industry, and make an impact. This story highlights the hotel industry but so many similar examples in other segments. Employers need to focus on headcount that is directly producing results. i.e. teachers in the classroom vs district office, government headcount that always goes up, etc
