Apparently, it’s a great time to be a VC in biotech. The shift from single-asset bets (drugs that take years to IPO) to platform companies aggregating otherwise siloed data has become super attractive (diverse exit opportunities). Though AI has also made it tougher for true unicorn products to distinguish themselves. At which point, not only does product-market-fit matter, but founder-market-fit becomes integral. The name of the game is de-risking. Does a founder have the domain expertise to make a VC confident in the longevity of the product? Are target personas lining up to use the product? If I was the CEO of boutique digital transformation firm making $500K to $3M and I needed to secure 3 mid-market CIO conversations in 45 days, here’s exactly how I’d do it: 1️⃣ I would codify my firm's narrative _ Define our New Game vs Old Game frame _ Example: Old Game = “Digital transformation means endless integration projects.” New Game = “Transformation means velocity + adoption measured in business outcomes.” Without a strong narrative, you’re just another consultancy chasing CIOs. The “New Game vs Old Game” frame instantly shifts you from a vendor to a thought leader — it gives CIOs a reason to listen. 2️⃣ Anchor on a Big Idea e.g. “Why mid-market CIOs are stuck in the Old Game of RFPs and referrals — and how to win the New Game of rapid transformation. Big ideas attract big conversations. A CIO won’t show up for “another vendor pitch” — but they’ll gladly join a conversation that reframes how their industry wins and loses. 3️⃣ Design a Roundtable (Podcast-First) _ I'd invite 3–4 CIOs as co-panelists, not prospects(!) -  _ I'd frame it as “a thought leadership roundtable we’ll publish as a podcast mini-series.” _ I'd they get exposure + credibility, we get conversations at the strategic level. No one likes being sold to. But every executive likes sharing their perspective. By turning prospects into voices of authority, you flip the dynamic — they lean into the relationship instead of dodging your outreach. 4️⃣ Leverage POV Distribution _ Record the roundtable → cut it into clips (using descript) _ Each clip becomes 2–3 LinkedIn posts for CEO/partners. _ Paid: Run a $500 TL ad campaign targeting other mid-market CIOs so they see peers featured. Executives trust peers over vendors. Showcasing other CIOs creates instant credibility — and running it as ads ensures your narrative doesn’t just live in the room, but scales across your whole ICP. 5️⃣ Convert Signals into Calls _ Follow up 1:1 with roundtable guests: “Let’s take this offline and explore how this plays out in your org.” _ Reach out to ad/post engagers: “I noticed you tuned into our roundtable. Want to join the next one?” By this stage, every outreach is warm. You’re not asking strangers for time; you’re continuing a conversation they’ve already entered. That’s why conversions spike and doors open. 👉 In 45 days, instead of cold outbound, I’ve got 3–5 CIOs already in conversation — and dozens more warming up by seeing their peers aligned with our narrative. ⚡ This is the difference between pitching services vs. leading with a strategic narrative. One commoditizes you. The other turns every piece of content into a credibility engine.
