The Davis Vanguard, a dedicated newsroom, is seeking financial support to continue its impactful mission of uncovering injustices and elevating marginalized voices in the community. Thanks Sarah Beth Gehl, PhD and Jed Herrmann for this compelling and encouraging piece on why community engagement is needed now more than ever. This piece is about local government but I believe that the spirit of it can apply to nonprofit work as well. Here’s my favorite gem from the piece, “Engagement is not a cure-all. But it is a proven way to align decisions with public values, minimize harm to vulnerable communities and protect the integrity of democratic governance. As fiscal conditions grow more challenging and people’s wariness of the public sector grows, governments must resist the urge to pull back from engagement. Instead, they should deepen it.”

Nonprofit Workforce Crisis: from federal changes, to moral tension and funding modles What we are witnessing is not a nonprofit failure - it is a structural mismatch between what nonprofits are asked to solve and what they are resourced or legally allowed to do.
