Most engineers take the wrong path to CCIE. We've watched it happen for years. Someone with five or six years of solid network experience decides it's CCIE time, skips CCNP prep, dives straight into lab workbooks, and six months later they're burned out and confused. Every time. The thing is, the path itself isn't complicated. CCNA first, that's your 3-6 months building the foundation. Then CCNP in your chosen track, which takes most people about 12-18 months if they're actually labbing and not just reading. Then CCIE, where the real fun starts, and by fun we mean an 8-hour lab exam with something like a 25-30% first attempt pass rate. But here's what the study guide won't tell you. The salary jump between each stage is wild. We're talking around $94K at the CCNA level, north of $150K with a CCNP Security, and the average CCIE pulls in $166K with top earners clearing $220K.
