Your pharmacy bill holds your medication history. Your Aadhaar carries your biometric identity. Your salary slip maps your financial life. Most "intelligent document processing" tools ask you to upload all of this to someone else's cloud. We built Netra IDP at Aparsoft to work differently. The documents never leave your building. What technology will define HealthTech in 2026? In discussions with several technical leads and CTOs, one key insight emerged: "AI that ships without breaking ABDM compliance." ABDM compliance is no longer optional. With 79.91 crore ABHA accounts created and 67.19 crore health records linked, the Press Information Bureau states that AB-PMJAY hospitals must adhere to ABDM standards, including private facilities. If your EHR does not integrate with ABDM, you risk being excluded from empanelment. Additionally, the DPDP Act 2023 and Rules 2025 have made hospitals and health-tech platforms Data Fiduciaries, responsible for lawful processing of personal data. Full compliance is expected by 13 May 2027, with penalties of up to ₹250 crore for security failures. Key requirements include encryption, access controls, and breach reporting. Looking ahead, e-Sanjeevani has completed over 16 crore teleconsultations, with a focus in 2026 on rural intensification, 5G-enabled remote diagnostics, and AI-assisted triage. 2026 priorities include: - ABDM integration from sprint one - DPDP-compliant consent workflows - FHIR APIs for NHCX claims exchange - Encrypt everything—no exceptions - Build for Tier 2/3 markets, where growth is anticipated By 2026, India is expected to become the second-largest HealthTech startup hub in Asia. Character Economy and Healthcare Data We just wrapped a course on interpreting 837 data and calculating HCC risk scores directly from such data - hew, what a journey, Prince Baawuah, DrPH, MPH, CSM® and mimilabs. There are many benefits on why you should calculate HCC from 837; least data loss, full control of ins and outs, and easier spotting of data omissions and errors. The hcc-in-fhir package does this work, and I hope many other organization could adopt this approach. By the way, as I stare at this 837 format, I always was curious why the format looks so weird. So finally, I had a chance to ask the question to Claude.ai And it gave a very interesting theory. In the old days, telecommunications were charged per character - character economy. Because of that, people preferred data standards that require "less characters," to save transmission costs, hence now the EDI format. It's kind hard to imagine those days when we have almost no limit of how many characters we send/receive over the internet. Fun fact: One EDI provider in the past charged 30 cents per 1,024 characters. When you're transmitting at 300 baud (about 30 characters per second), every character literally costs time and money. That's why we get ISA*00* *00* *ZZ*SENDER instead of more readable formats. Healthcare data still carries this DNA from the character-constrained era.
