This January, Sac Dance Lab marks 9 years of building dance infrastructure in Sacramento’s creative economy. Founded in 2017, Sac Dance Lab began as a single weekly class in a shared art and tech workspace. What started as a small training space for adult professional dancers has grown into a multi-studio creative hub supporting over 25 local dance professionals, five performance teams and more than 50 classes weekly. Beyond classes, Sac Dance Lab provides paid teaching, rehearsal and performance opportunities for artists in an industry where sustainable work can be difficult to access. Each year, SDL dancers participate in countless community performances, contributing to festivals, nightlife, public events and collaborative productions across the region. Sac Dance Lab has also prioritized access alongside sustainability. With no contracts and no registration fees, the studio lowers barriers for participation while maintaining professional standards and fair compensation for instructors. Programming has expanded to include beginner and youth pathways, helping build a long-term pipeline for dancers at every stage. Nine years in, Sac Dance Lab functions as more than a studio. It is creative infrastructure that supports artists, activates community spaces and strengthens Sacramento’s cultural ecosystem. We are proud of the artists, collaborators and community members who have built this with us since 2017.

NVIDIA isn’t just making GPUs anymore. It’s becoming the substrate everything runs on. Today, San José State University brought the NVIDIA GTC Student Experience right to campus, and I got to watch the keynote live while Jensen walked through what might be the most important infrastructure buildout in human history. He made the point that going forward, companies should think about offering tokens alongside annual compensation packages the same way they offer health benefits today. That hit different when you’re a student trying to figure out what “value” looks like in an AI-first job market. The slides I was photographing are honestly worth studying. One showed the entire structured data ecosystem, every major enterprise, every storage platform, every database engine, all connected by green lines to a single block at the bottom that said cuDF. The next one did the same for unstructured data with cuVS. Hundreds of zettabytes of data a year, and it all flows through the same foundation. That’s not a product pitch. That’s a map of how the world actually works now. And then there was the Olaf moment. Jensen Huang brought an actual Disney Frozen robot on stage to show physical AI and what Newton, their new physics simulation engine built with Disney Research and Google DeepMind, can do. We’re at an inflection point for inference. The question is no longer whether AI will be everywhere. GIS attended the annual French Tech San Diego event, which featured a panel of AI experts discussing the topic “Where AI and the Machine Meet.” The panel included a great mix of local entrepreneurs, founders, CEOs, and tech professionals from Fortune 500 companies across San Diego County. It was a breath of fresh air to hear real case studies of funded AI projects that are delivering true business value and measurable returns across multiple sectors. The highlight of the evening was hearing from Luc Julia, Co-Founder of Siri, who gave a candid and thought-provoking talk on how AI should be viewed as a set of tools designed to augment humans and automate repetitive tasks. He referred to this concept as “Augmented Intelligence.” Luc shared that most of what we see on social media today represents “Hollywood AI” — exaggerated versions that don’t reflect current technological realities. We couldn’t agree more. He offered specific examples and data showing that we are still quite far from AI replacing the majority of human jobs. It was refreshing to hear such a balanced and fact-based perspective, and a pleasure to meet many of the panelists — including a 20-minute conversation with Luc Julia himself after the presentation.
