Good podcast from Google about lazy loading -> Lazy loading demystified As Martin explains, a solid way to make sure your lazy loaded content is ok is to inspect the url in GSC, copy the code to a text editor, and search for the content. Make sure the images are there with proper src attributes of each image tag, make sure lazy loaded comments are showing up, etc. https://lnkd.in/e-5FHwt8

Open Source should mean "Open" - Why Pimcore’s license shift is a wake-up call As an agency owner relying on Drupal as our main framework, I’ve always valued the trust that comes from offering clients a truly open-source solution. That’s why Pimcore’s recent license changes caught my attention - and not in a good way. With their new pricing model, companies over €5 million revenue now must buy the Professional Edition starting at €8,400 per year. Higher tiers go up to €25,200 and beyond. For agencies who’ve been pitching Pimcore as a no-license, open-source platform, this is a tough turn. It’s now harder to justify the total cost of ownership, especially when clients expected budget-friendly flexibility. Meanwhile, Drupal continues to do what open source was meant to do: stay open - and we should all value this even more. No license fees. No usage thresholds. No surprise paywalls. Just a robust, enterprise-ready CMS backed by a huge global community and rapid innovation. "Good SEO is good GEO." - Danny Sullivan, Google The evolution of SEO is a popular topic today. This presentation by Google's Danny Sullivan does an excellent job of explaining the current state of SEO and GEO. He argues that many of the same principles still apply. Interestingly, Google's AI mode leads to more searches. Some websites are seeing fewer clicks because the answer is on the Google results page. But if someone just wants a quick answer, they don't need to visit a webpage. The opportunity for the website publisher is to create a compelling, differentiating experience for the user that makes the website more valuable. Poorly executed URL changes rank among the top causes of organic traffic drops, with some websites experiencing 30-50% traffic decreases following botched URL modifications. Recovery typically takes 3-6 months: and that's under optimal circumstances. Here's the thing: most of these disasters are entirely preventable.

Major development in the WordPress ecosystem: Yesterday, a California federal judge granted WP Engine's preliminary injunction against Automattic and Matt Mullenweg. The Court's Order (within 72 hours): Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín found that WP Engine demonstrated a likelihood of success on its intentional interference with contractual relations claim. She ordered Automattic to immediately: 1. Restore WP Engine's access to WordPress.org resources 2. Return control of the Advanced Custom Fields plugin 3. Remove the WP Engine affiliation checkbox 4. Delete customer tracking data from the "WP Engine Tracker" website The Business Context: This dispute began when Matt Mullenweg demanded WP Engine pay 8% of annual revenue (approximately £26M) for using the WordPress trademark. When WP Engine declined, Automattic blocked their WordPress.org access in September, affecting over 200,000 WordPress sites. Why This Matters for Digital Agencies and Businesses: • WordPress.org access can be revoked—it's not guaranteed infrastructure • Managed hosting provider relationships now carry different risk considerations • The trademark question (who can use "WordPress" in company names) remains unresolved • Open-source governance is more complex than most businesses realised What Happens Next: This is a preliminary injunction, not a final judgment. Automattic plans to file counterclaims. A full trial is expected in 12-18 months. The legal battle is far from over. I recently watched my wife, a non-technical WordPress user, get thoroughly frustrated in the Block Editor. The problem wasn’t the features, it was the language. She was trying to adjust spacing, but couldn’t find it because padding and margin are hidden under “Dimensions.” Now, “Dimensions” makes sense to developers (we think in terms of width × height × depth), but the web is a 2D environment. For everyday users, “Dimensions” feels abstract and misleading. Other design tools like Figma, Canva, and Photoshop use “Size” for width and height, and “Spacing” for padding and margin. Simple, intuitive, familiar. I think for non-technical as well as technical users the use of "Spacing" as a point of direction would have reduced the congnative frustration.
