I had a chance last week to spend a little time with Cedric Clark, EVP of Store Operations for Walmart US who oversees our stores and frontline associates. He reminded me of one of the most important behaviors for leaders--whether in corporate roles, small and medium size businesses, nonprofits or government: Proximity. Getting and being close to your people matters. As Cedric says, "If you aren’t close enough to your team to see the person behind the badge, you’ll miss the 'hidden' friction, the broken tool or the fragmented process that’s draining their energy.” The spreadsheet never tells the full story. A good reminder to all of us as we kick off the week.
