The California Public Utilities Commission published its report on DSM programs to the legislature for the years 2021-2023, and I'm just amazed by the numbers: behavioral programs accounted for 40% of all IOU electric savings and 42% of all IOU gas savings during that period. Opower's programs helped deliver up to $29 of annual combined bill savings per customer (3x more than other vendors!). This shows the power of behavioral programs to help reduce costs for all customers by lowering overall energy use. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/ehgE-Cf2

The challenges that legacy RPA tools had with UI automation are going to quickly become a thing of the past. AI is already doing incredibly reliable UI automation through agents such as what ChatGPT recently introduced.

Despite U.S. federal policy shifts, the state of California is still leading the way in the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy. Once completed, the Darden Clean Energy Project in Frenso (owned by Darden I, LLC, a subsidiary of Intersect Power) is expected to be the largest solar-powered BESS site in the world with 4,600 MWh battery storage capacity, enough to power 850,000 homes for four hours. That's nearly double the capacity of the BESS site at Moss Landing! My first two months at E3 have been an exciting mix of continuity and new opportunities. I’ve been fortunate to continue the grid modernization work at Southern California Edison that I’ve been part of for more than 10 years, while also reconnecting with long-time colleagues who have joined E3. I’ll be reporting on SCE’s Demand Flexibility journey on a panel at IEEE GreenTech this Thursday (March 26) in Boulder, Colorado. At the same time, I’m excited to bring the hands-on experience from my SCE work to other utilities as they integrate new technologies into their grid operations, while adding a stronger focus on the economics through collaboration with E3’s world-class experts in this area. As part of E3’s newly formed Distribution Technology and Planning group, I have the opportunity to expand this work across a broader set of clients and challenges. A consistent highlight of this work is the mutual learning that comes from collaboration with colleagues and engagement with clients.
