Information flow into the port is through Marine Operations and this is the gateway to all the initial and final communication involved with vessels as well as agencies. There is an emerging need for an analysis of improvement in all aspects of container transport due to the global increase in the volume of containerized goods. The degree of mechanization from conventional is underway. Scope of automation might reduce the current failures at the automated equipment front. New standard operating procedure which accommodate modernization might allow better utilization of port area. From the survey analysis, Management decision making should be dynamic and not predetermined. Control and time are the most important factors with respect to port efficiency. Show less

In this report we have analysed four challenges where we have formulated them as case studies. This helped to look at every minute details even without any significant data. The cases are real based on observation and meticulous surveying in the yard. This also involved orally asking the staff about the bottlenecks in day to day operations which helped us to determine the cases and prepare analysis accordingly.

A start up company whose goal is to create an iPhone knockoff or copy. The idea is to out ‘iPhone’ the iPhone, but at 50% of the cost to the customer. As a project manager of the team , the project will identify what features will go into this iPhone copy, determine how to manufacture the phones for less than the real iPhone and determine how to market this new copy. The project ends once the idea has either been abandoned or the new copy phone has been available for sale for 45 days.

Our paper aims at improving the hull design and appendages and choosing a better propulsor rather than changing the current propulsion system which may be linked with three components namely propulsor open water efficiency, hull efficiency and the relative rotative efficiency. It also suggests solution which relaxes the length constraints slightly in conjuction with block coefficient which enhances the performance both the ballast and loaded condition with a good estimated fuel savings per day. It also considers various hull coatings that reduce the commencement of fouling to an extent such as electrochemically active coating systems. The injection of low pressure air either to develop a micro-bubble interface between water and hull or the provision of air cushion trapped by an especially developed hull form, will significantly reduce the frictional drag. Prior to the propulsor it shares the concept of contra-rotating propeller techniques which show an efficiency improvement of 5 to 15 per cent. Division of power is probably most important issue when any kind of propulsion system is evaluated in the vessel. The hydro-dynamic design point also ensures low cavitation and pressure pulses. It also gives the idea of magneto-hydrodynamic propulsion, which is not that widely used but has good future considerations due to noise free conditions and design aspects. Show less
