It is a protocol that goes back to redefine HTTP/S requests for AIs. It is proven, here, to work as intended.

Training a model on legally acquired data is quite reasonably not a breach of copyright. There's undoubtedly potential for models to cross a line on copyright (just search for Studio Ghibli on LinkedIn for evidence of that) but it is hard to see how the act of training could be seen as a breach. I'm sure that future court cases will bring up the concept of intent and whether AI companies have done enough to protect the copyright of creators. This one will run and run.
