The AM Brief, Monday October 6, 2025 US Weekly Recap: Dow 46,758 +1.10%, S&P 6,715 +1.09%, Nasdaq 22,780 +1.32%, Bitcoin 122,507 , 10 Year Treasury 4.11% Good afternoon, U.S. equities rallied sharply, fully recovering last week’s losses as the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq all hit record highs, with gains spread broadly across sectors. The Equal Weight S&P 500 ETF outperformed the main index, while standout performers included pharma, managed care, utilities, semiconductors, China tech, homebuilders, and industrials. The semiconductor rally remained a key driver, led by CRWV’s 12% surge after signing a $14 billion AI-computing deal with Meta and NVDA jumped 5.3%. In fixed income, Treasuries strengthened as the yield curve steepened, the dollar slipped 0.4%, gold rose 2.7% to a record high, and oil plunged 7.4% on expectations of higher OPEC+ output. Despite political gridlock over Affordable Care Act subsidies extending the government shutdown into next week, markets remained resilient, with history showing shutdowns typically have minimal short-term impact and the S&P 500 rising a median 12.3% over the following year. Important Reports this week by Day & What’s at Risk Tuesday (Oct 7) Inflation Expectations: NY Fed’s September Survey of Consumer Expectations will reveal whether August’s rise in household inflation outlook was temporary or persistent. Also, Used Car Prices with the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index offering an inflation proxy; up 1.7% y/y in August. Cleveland Fed’s Nowcast sees core CPI running ~2.95% y/y in September. Wednesday (Oct 8) The FOMC Minutes (from Sept meeting) are among the more reliable releases since the Federal Reserve does not rely on annual appropriations, so that should go through even during a shutdown. Also, Mortgage Applications: MBA weekly data may show continued volatility; purchase index fell 1% in late September but could rebound if the Fed continues easing. Thursday (Oct 9) Weekly Jobless Claims, Wholesale Inventories Jobless Claims are at high risk of being delayed or skipped; Inventories may also be delayed if the Census or other agencies are shut down. Friday (Oct 10) Consumer Sentiment: University of Michigan’s preliminary October reading expected to improve with equity gains, lower layoffs, and easing tariff concerns supporting household optimism. A quiet week for economic data releases, made even quieter by the ongoing government shutdown, leaving markets and Fed officials “flying blind” ahead of the October 28–29 FOMC meeting. With federal data delayed, investors will lean on private surveys and Fed commentary for direction. Consumer sentiment and inflation expectations could shape short-term rate-cut expectations and Q4 market tone. Amy Arnold's guest article in AltsWire purports to indict crowdfunding.  She writes: "The flaw is not just in execution by certain platforms; it is built into the model itself."  I disagree with this conclusion. The central innovation of funding platforms is that they have opened private markets to individual investors. 70% of Americans do not work with a financial advisor, but they want access to the broadest possible array of investments. The idea that investors should not be allowed to exercise their own free will with their own investment capital is and should be an anathema to Americans.  The JOBS Act took important steps to right this wrong. All platforms are not the same. Not even close. Some platform sponsors have abused investors’ trust by failing to develop a reasonable due diligence process to screen for bad deals and unscrupulous sponsors.  Others have invested heavily in due diligence, and some of these platforms have still experienced bad outcomes. But this is no different than the experience of investment firms with highly vaunted research and due diligence processes. Anyone who closely follows AltsWire knows that GSK, Inspire Medical Systems, and GPB Capital were all heavily promoted by professional advisors ---experts in alternatives--- not funding platforms. Moreover, the “due diligence problem” is not limited to private markets and platforms. Who has not observed fraud or experienced poor outcomes in public markets? All investments require research, analysis, and due diligence, and most retail investors would benefit from professional investment advice and support. Funding platforms have experienced failures, but they will evolve and improve ~ the market will make sure of this. If due diligence is determined to be a lacking feature, then the platforms will adapt accordingly. Happily,  I agree completely with Arnold’s concluding sentence: “Professional guidance is not an obstacle to access – it is the path to lasting success.”  I might have said – “the most likely path…” After all, past performance is not indicative of future results. https://lnkd.in/gQP-tp7Z

This surge in notices and contract ounces creates *supply pressure* and can drive silver price volatility, signaling a possible short squeeze because: - Deliverable silver inventory is projected at 83 M oz, while open‑interest demand is 128 M oz. - The shortage forces shorts to cover, pushing prices up. “Decanting” an irrevocable trust allows a trustee to use distribution powers to transfer assets from one trust into another with different, often more favorable, terms. Much like decanting wine to separate it from sediment, trust decanting “pours” assets into a new vessel, potentially improving clarity and control. While the original trust must be irrevocable, meaning its terms typically can’t be changed by the grantor, decanting offers a lawful method for trustees to update those terms under certain conditions. A trustee might consider decanting if the original trust lacks flexibility to deal with changing tax laws, family circumstances or beneficiary needs.
