The New York Pops’ annual birthday gala is celebrated each spring, raising funds for the orchestra and its education programs. The New York Pops performs an annual series at its summer home, Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY, reaching audiences of more than 7,500. Now in its 36th season, The New York Pops celebrates the diversity of popular music’s evolving songbook. Every concert is a unique experience, with influences ranging from Broadway melodies to film scores, jazz, rock, pop and everything in between. Sandy Hook Promise’s Media Advisory Group is made up of media leaders who are committed to raising awareness for SHP’s mission of gun violence prevention through the media industry. They are working to find a collective way to change the narrative in media, change how violence is covered and portrayed, and foster a wave of change for generations to come.

This group, along with others from the media industry, contributed to the Emmy-winning “Back to School Essentials” PSA from Sandy Hook Promise receiving over $4 million in donated media, and being viewed over 200 million times worldwide.

Sandy Hook Promise (SHP)’s mission is to end school shootings and create a culture change that prevents violence. Through its proven Know the Signs programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. These programs are delivered at no cost to elementary, middle and high schools nationwide.

SHP has trained over 12 million people since its inception in 2013 in over 14,000 schools and youth organizations across all 50 states. To date, these programs have stopped multiple school shootings, suicides, and gun threats; reduced bullying and victimization; and helped get hundreds of youth the mental health assistance they need.
