Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement is built to be configurable first and extensible second. That distinction matters more than many organizations realize. The Power Platform makes extension accessible. But accessibility does not mean it should be the default. Native configuration in D365 CE, such as custom tables, business rules, security roles, dashboards, and model-driven apps, aligns cleanly with Microsoft release cycles. It upgrades smoothly and carries far less long-term maintenance overhead. Extension becomes appropriate when measurable business requirements exceed platform boundaries. Complex automation, advanced integrations, industry-specific compliance logic, or AI-driven enrichment may justify it. But every extension introduces architectural responsibility. New Dynamic, LLC emphasizes a practical evaluation approach: exhaust configuration options first. Then extend only when the business value clearly outweighs the maintenance cost.
