What’s one of my greatest accomplishments as a program manager? It’s not completing a project on-time or meeting a specific metric. It was building a set of PM templates, standards, guidelines, and a tooling solution to help many PMs (including myself) drive programs together. When program management meets strategy & operations, you get PMO. Instead of solving just one problem, you solve it for many people at once. Think scale, governance, structure, roadmapping, and execution. Now if you do it the right way, you will be able to easily view reports, metrics, and customize as needed. Additionally, you will save a tremendous amount of time as you already built a framework that is proven and works. This is not the only responsibility of a program manager but it’s part of our natural career growth. Even better when you have a team supporting you and fellow PMs who want to work together to solve it. Program Managers play a big role in our day to day jobs. Not only do we have to execute on programs and projects but we are big picture thinkers as well! #ProgramManagement #TechIndustry

If you are getting into PM because you "want more decision-making power," it's time to think again. This morning Nate Cusick posted about the realities of product management - we don't really have any power. We have influence, yes. But our decisions can be overridden by lots of people. Or just ignored. But this leads to the insight that the skills that are 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘢 important for PMs are not technical, and not domain-specific, but those related to "navigating rounds of tradeoffs, constraints, and tough conversations," all in the interest of making sure the right thing is done. This means:  • Soft skills. • Persuasion skills. • Political skills. • Code-switching skills. • Sales skills. If you want to be a PM you'd better love that stuff. And if you want to be a 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 PM, you should focus on improving in those areas. Not learning SQL.

From Managing Projects to Orchestrating Ecosystems: The 2026 Global Program Manager Playbook. 🌍 The transition from Project Manager to Global Program Manager isn't just a step up—it’s a total shift in perspective. Early in my career, I was a Tactical Executor. I lived in the Gantt charts, obsessing over individual task completion and "on-time" delivery. But as the landscape shifted toward a Liquid Workforce and high-velocity AI cycles, I realized that hitting a deadline is useless if the program has lost its Strategic Alignment. Today, a Global Program Manager is less of a "Task Master" and more of a Value Architect. What the job descriptions say vs. what my experience has taught me: 📍 "Cross-Functional Leadership" The Job Description: Coordinate between Delivery, Operations, and Finance. The Experience: It’s about being a "Multilingual Bridge." You have to translate the high-level Executive Visioninto a technical roadmap that actually makes sense to a Data Scientist, while simultaneously defending the P&L to the CFO. ⚙️ "Program Governance & Risk Management" The Job Description: Maintain standards and mitigate project risks. The Experience: In 2026, governance isn't a checklist; it’s Agile Guardrails. It’s using predictive analytics to spot a Knowledge Hemorrhage before a key freelancer rolls off, or pivoting a program mid-flight because the market’s AI adoption outpaced your original roadmap. 📈 "Strategic Resource Allocation" The Job Description: Manage budgets and staffing. The Experience: It’s Orchestrating the Ecosystem. It’s knowing when to deploy an internal "A-Team" and when to plug in a specialized freelancer to solve a 48-hour bottleneck. It’s about ensuring that every dollar spent is a direct investment in ROI and Scalability. The biggest lesson? Individual projects are about efficiency. Global programs are about impact. If you aren't ruthlessly managing the interdependencies and ensuring that the sum of your projects creates Transformative Organizational Value, you're just busy—you're not leading. I have definitely been using this framing in the context of AI. For me, both perspectives matter: 1. Solve the real problems in front of you. AI can and should address specific pain points or bottlenecks. 2. Think beyond today’s problems to the art of the possible. What opportunities do we have today to make things better, even if they seem just fine today? What’s possible with AI now that wasn’t possible with yesterday’s tech?
