As a cybersecurity recruiter, I see this firsthand. While RTO has become a bad word to some, remote hiring has expanded access to talent and it has also expanded the attack surface. We are seeing increasingly sophisticated attempts to bypass identity verification using falsified profiles, compromised accounts, and coordinated facilitator networks. Hiring for technical roles today is not just about skills. It is about identity integrity, risk awareness, and tight partnership with security teams. Secure hiring is a shared responsibility and the role of recruiters must continue to evolve with the landscape.

See an error on a webpage? Try my cache clearing helper, Dr. Cache! Since 2005 I've built things online. Yet, when a website is showing errors or acting strange my first thought is about the code. "Maybe the last code change broke this?" Soon, I realize, "Oh, it's probably the cache..." So, I made a bookmarklet (JavaScript code that you paste as a bookmark's URL) that helps to clear some caches quickly with explanations on how to clear more. Yes, you can just go to browser settings, but that may or may not clear everything, and for some users it's hard to find. #H1B visas will now carry a one-off $100k employer fee, up from the previous $1,500. This is a seismic change in the market and could trigger one of the most significant hiring strategy shifts since Covid. The order took effect yesterday, meaning employers must now carefully reconsider who they sponsor, or whether they sponsor at all. For now, the fee does not apply to existing H1B holders, but it will apply to anyone entering the 2026 lottery. What's unclear is whether the current administration will leave it at that, or eventually extend the fee to existing visa holders. Is this effectively the end of the H1B program, surviving only for business-critical or executive roles? It's starting to look that way. #Visa #POTUS #IT

$100,000 in funding has been distributed to eight Ruby open source maintainers through the 2026 Gem Fellowship, an initiative to support the people keeping the Ruby ecosystem healthy. The recipients cover a genuinely useful spread of the ecosystem: Rouge for syntax highlighting, ruby-git for Git integration, TTY::Markdown for terminal rendering, SimpleCov and Ruby Toolbox, the Herb HTML-aware ERB parser, Ferrum and Cuprite for browser testing, and Bridgetown for content-focused web development. What’s notable is the framing. This isn’t a corporate grant programme. It came from one developer’s recognition that small amounts of funding for the right people can have outsized effects on the entire community. For Rails developers who rely on these gems daily, it’s a reminder that the ecosystem runs on the sustained effort of individuals.
