I want to share how TARRA 2.0 addresses the gap between plan and reality—something every network planner encounters: **The Planning Challenge (Real Scenario):** A typical GIS plan for metro fiber expansion assumes existing routes from documentation. But when field teams actually walk the path, reality differs: routes deviate around obstacles, follow terrain that older maps missed, or have undocumented branches. This gap between GIS assumption and ground truth creates planning delays and cost overruns. **Where TARRA 2.0 Creates Real Impact:** **1. Baseline Accuracy for Planning** Instead of relying on 2-year-old route records, field teams trace existing fiber with precision using TARRA 2.0. This ground-truth topology becomes your planning foundation—not estimates. GIS planners now work with what *actually exists*, not what was documented. **2. Incremental Expansion Becomes Faster & Cheaper** Once you know your real route topology, identifying where expansion is feasible becomes straightforward. 📉 The Collapse of the Economic Byte Voice collapsed to zero. Data will follow. Telco must pivot now — not at the edge of disruption, but before the curve bends beyond recovery. If in the year 2000 I told you that voice would become a free service, most would have said I was crazy. Yet by 2023, voice revenue fell from more than 70% of the industry mix to a zero-rated feature inside data bundles. Today, I am telling you the same fate is coming for data. This is not about blaming operators. This is the economics of superabundance — a principle that governs every exponential technology. 📉 The Collapse of the Economic Byte • 1995: Sending 1 GB on a 28 Kbps modem required ~20 hours of labor • 2025: Fiber moves that same gigabyte in 11 seconds • Collapse: 99.98% decline in the economic price of a byte This mirrors the fall in the cost of light — from 5 hours of labor for 1,000 lumens in 1800 to 0.5 seconds today. Once a unit becomes abundant, the market simply refuses to pay for it. 📡 The Reality Check • Traffic rising 25–30% per year • Operators to invest USD 1.5 trillion+ on 5G & 5G Advanced by 2030 — just to sustain service levels • ARPU in developed markets? Flat or declining in real terms • Hyperscalers convert data into revenue • Operators convert data into cost We are nearing the Zero Data Revenue Event — the moment when transporting another petabyte creates negative margins. ⚠️ The Business Model Cannot Survive on Abundance The sector must pivot from selling connectivity, to selling capability. From transport → to intelligence. From bandwidth → to determinism. The scarce surfaces machines and applications will pay for: Scarce Surface Why It Matters Determinism AI & real-time workloads demand guaranteed outcomes — not best-effort delivery. Local Compute Edge inference requires latency as a currency, not as a handicap. Identity Every device, packet & agent needs authenticated presence. Trust Data without provenance is worthless; integrity becomes monetizable. Orchestration Networks must negotiate, prioritize, and optimize — not just forward packets. Data is becoming free. Intelligence is not. The network must evolve from a pipeline into a platform — one that computes, verifies, predicts, and orchestrates value at the edge. The question is not if this shift is coming. India’s digital journey has been remarkable. Total telephone connections now exceed 1.2 billion.  We have highest per user mobile data consumption in the world- 32 GB per month per user. Some industry reports indicate that 70-80 percent of mobile data is consumed indoors. Even though there are simple and cost effective technologies to provide seamless indoor coverage, yet many of our offices, public places and residential complexes suffer from weak indoor signals, call drops and unreliable internet. As we adopt higher-frequency technologies like 5G to deliver high data speed their capability to penetrate through walls becomes limited unlike 2G and 3G technology which provide more indoor coverage with lower data rates.   This is where the concept of Digital Connectivity Infrastructure (DCI) comes into play. It is more of a digital plumbing of a building which includes fibre entry points, ducting, cable trays, distributed antenna systems, rooftop access for antennas, Wi-Fi readiness, and provisions for mobile networks. The cost of DCI is a comparable to electrical systems when planned as a part of building construction.   To address this and make property managers, architects, town planners aware, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) has notified a Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity Regulations, 2024. This voluntary, performance-based star rating system, comparable to green building or energy efficiency ratings, provides a transparent and technology-neutral framework to evaluate how digitally ready a property is.   On 13 August 2025, TRAI released the final Manual for Assessment of Digital Connectivity under Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity Regulations, 2024. This manual sets out the methodology and rating parameters like fibre readiness, indoor signal strength, rooftop access, mobile network availability, Wi-Fi enablement and resilience. This rating manual may be used more of a benchmark or reference for planning, creation and assessment of DCI by architects, civil engineers and IT experts. TRAI has already granted registration for twelve Digital Connectivity Rating Agencies called DCRAs who will now evaluate and rate properties across the country. While DCI is required for big multistory or large complexes, Wi-Fi offload is the solution for your home. This feature is available in almost every android and Apple smart phone. In case you have weak mobile signal in your home or office but have Wi-Fi connectivity, simply enable 'Wi-Fi Calling' - may differ in different brands.
