Salesforce’s CEO Marc Benioff: AI Does 30-50% of Company’s Work Now -- In the aftermath of significant layoffs by Salesforce linked to its deployment of AI tools, the company now says it is increasing its use of AI to automate workloads. In an interview with Bloomberg, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said that about 30% to 50% of the company’s work is done by AI. Regarding the ethics of reducing staff, Benioff stated AI is fueling a “digital labor revolution” that will bring about “everything from AI agents to robots.” CEOs, he said, will “have to make sure their values are in the right place.’’ Salesforce has already eliminated more than 1,000 roles this year, but is just one of many companies accelerating AI use. Quick thoughts about Salesforce acquiring Informatica: This is a potentially huge play for Salesforce, but there are many caveats. Informatica has primarily been an on-premise solution for their customers. I've heard many stories of issues trying to migrate to their cloud solution. Additionally, Informatica's entry into the cloud raises questions about competition with Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, etc. Informatica's bread and butter has been its legacy contracts and large renewals with Fortune 500 companies for decades, cementing its status as a market-leading data management platform. Salesforce has struggled to gain ground in non-SaaS CRM use cases. Many potential clients have pushed back against the premise of storing all their data in the Salesforce platform. It's a nightmare for data teams, and many questions arise, such as, "Why are we shipping all of this data to Salesforce?" Salesforce should invest heavily in integrations to enable seamless connections with Informatica environments for its implementations. Once you own the data platform, you can say, "Hey, we have an integration to help pull that data without your data team having to do the heavy lifting." However, they'll also need to create upgrades for Informatica on-prem environments to handle these integrations. Salesforce is giving a gift to Agentforce, the enterprise data that Informatica has access to.
