📝 Just released this new article on my blog today. Drupal isn't always easy to work with, and I've found it especially tricky to write robust JS simply because not enough frontend developers are documenting how they're working with it. I've now built complete sites and applications with Replit, Anthropic (Claude), Wix, and a few others. So far I've had the best results more of the time with Replit (I have no vested interest in Replit, and do not work there.) Here are a few observations based on experience with AI in general: 1: There is usually unprecedented superfluous bloat in generated code. 2: From a security perspective it still has holes. 3: It's a good idea to specify langues, design principles, methodologies, and architecture. 4: It still tends to hit a limit where it breaks down. Have a plan for that. AI is improving at a rate that might be able to keep up with problems it's creating along side it's solutions. The conclusion I'm still coming to is still that vibe coding is good for rapid prototyping and applications without sensitive or highly sensitive content sitting in environments that are well-isolated. I am interested in hearing the personal experience and observational insights of others. Please also cite references if the insight came from somewhere else.

It’s about making #Drupal better for everyone. Most people think saying no means missing out. But for us, it means saying yes to what matters. Yes to quality. Yes to service. Yes to community. That’s how we do white-glove #Drupal support. And that’s why we’ll keep saying no—so we can say yes to you.

How to stop guessing and start seeing: Twig debugging in Drupal Ever felt like Twig was hiding things from you? You inspect the HTML, stare at the classes, and wonder “Which template is controlling this?” or “What variables do I even have access to?” Twig debug mode is your flashlight in the dark. Turn it on, and suddenly: • Template suggestions appear right in your markup • Variable dumps let you see what you’re working with • You stop wasting time and start making confident changes Whether you’re building a custom theme or wrangling contrib templates, enabling Twig debugging is one of the most underrated power moves in Drupal theming. Just add this to your services.yml: parameters: twig.config: debug: true auto_reload: true cache: false Then clear cache and inspect/view source — the clues are all there. I've been thinking quite a bit about what best practice UX looks like on Shopify stores. When building UX components for use across lots of Shopify stores, there's always been conflicting ideas about how to tackle complex functionality such as carts, customer accounts, promotions. The traditional options are: - Use apps that have a good UX that is transferable across any theme - Build it custom for best native feel within the theme Some things happening in the ecosystem: • Shopify has rolled out a new "Account Component" that makes password-free login embeddable anywhere in the customer journey. I've seen how easy it is to drop into apps and themes - it's bloody great! • Rivo just showed some swagger by launching their own "Editions" with 100 AI generated product announcements, and are trying to fill all the gaps that Shopify themes and account extensibility fail. • Design Packs provide the safe and steady middle ground with simple re-usable components that serve almost everyone. Is an app better if it builds "catch all" functionality that works across all themes, or is it better to start aligning UX with Shopify components such as the Account Component and Web Components in general? By doing the latter you ensure that other site features like Cart, Wishlist, Account Management all have a consistent UX and will work across any Shopify store. To me, this is win/win/win for apps/developers/merchants and allows faster innovation, lowers tech debt and reduces reliance on specific themes. Is this too idealistic?
