I was reflecting on the EOL for Maven 3.8. As Maven 4 moves into Beta with RC4 available, what does that mean for your CICD pipelines pinned to “latest”? ‼️Danger. Pay attention to your tooling. Pin to a version or family, e.g., 3, 3.9, 3.9.11. I recall APIs builds failing on the 3.9.0 release with the retirement of very old utilities auto injected on the class path for backward compatibility. 💥 One pipeline passes and the next fails as caches are refreshed for “latest”. Once between builds in the same hour.

Another silly title: <x> Vice President. There should be exactly 1 President and 1 Vice President. "Senior Divisional Regional Vice President" shouldn't be a real title. There should also be no Senior VP or not-Senior VP. If you're the VP, you are as senior as you can be, minus 1 job. I don't know how I'd replace that title.

But demand for good engineers keeps rising. What changes is the skill stack. Chaos Governance - The IT Roadmap Survival Guide In IT, a "Strategic Roadmap" usually has a shelf life of about three weeks, six if you are lucky. 😅 Week 1: Everyone agrees. We are aligned. This is the way. Week 4: "Hey, quick question, can we just squeeze in this one "tiny" (only 3 months of work) project?" Shifting priorities are the norm, not the exception. The real challenge is surviving them without spiking everyone's blood pressure, and more importantly, without losing your team's trust. I am using the view below to frame those conversations and minimize "shiny object syndrome" and unexpected pivots. We map everything out - from the hot stuff (AI, Zero Trust) to the necessary plumbing (HRIS integration, File Storage Modernization, SSO all the things). Admittedly, it doesn’t stop the chaos, but it definitely organizes it 😁. Question for the group: How do you handle the inevitable "mid-quarter pivot"?
